Insure and Bonded

Don’t fall victim to an untrustworthy moving company! We are a fully licensed, insured and bonded mover in Plano, Texas. We take pride in the work we do and strive to help individuals, families and businesses relocate with ease. In effort to make sure our customers fully understand our moving services, we want to explain what exactly it means to be an insured and bonded mover.

Bonded Movers in Texas

Under Texas law, moving companies are not required to be bonded. So, most cheap moving companies you find will not be bonded as this requires a substantial deposit for the moving company.

Bonding means that the moving company has set aside money (the bond). There are several different types of bonds but they are each a type of assurance that the moving company will make good on its contract. If the moving company doesn’t honor the contract, then the customer (or, in some cases, the subcontractor), gets the bond money.

A bond isn’t insurance. If something happens to your goods, such as the moving company loses or damages them, the bond money doesn’t cover it. That is what moving insurance is for. The bond is simply an assurance that the services will be performed. You might think that bonding doesn’t matter in the moving industry – but then consider all of those horror stories about moving companies who don’t show up on moving day! When you choose a bonded mover, you can rest assured that you will get the services promised in the contract.

Insured Movers in Texas

The State of Texas requires all moving companies to be licensed. In order to be licensed, movers must have insurance. So, any legit moving company in Texas will carry insurance. This doesn’t mean that they will all carry the same level of insurance though.

There are three types of insurance that moving companies in Texas must have:

  • Auto liability insurance for each vehicle
  • Accident insurance (in case a mover is injured while on the job)
  • Cargo insurance

When moving, the insurance that matters most to customers is the cargo insurance. This is the insurance which will cover your belongings should they get damaged or lost during the move. Under Texas law, all moving companies must have at least $5,000 in cargo insurance.

That doesn’t sound like a lot considering what all your belongings are worth, right? We know this, which is why we have received cargo insurance for much higher amounts so, in the very unlikely event that something happens, we could pay out the total damages. Because we have an impressive record of damage-free moves, we are able to keep our insurance rates low so you don’t have to pay extra for our premiums.

Types of Moving Insurance

Most homeowners are shocked to learn that the basic moving coverage required by law is only 60 cents per pound. So, if your 40lb flat-screen TV were to get broken, it would only be covered for $24!

We know that your belongings are worth more than 60 cents per pound, which is why we offer our customers multiple moving insurance options, including Full Value Protection. With Full Value Protection, your goods are insured for their actual worth. Again, it isn’t likely that anything will happen to them (we even give our movers bonuses for damage-free moves as extra incentive to be careful). But, having Full Value Protection gives you peace of mind that your belongings are covered.

In addition to these moving insurance options that we offer, we can help you make sense of other options. For example, if you have homeowners insurance, then your belongings are probably covered during the move. Depending on the value of your items and types of coverage available, one option may be much better for your needs.

Your Rights and Responsibilities Booklet

By law, all moving companies are required to give customers a copy of the booklet called Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move before the moving contract is signed. The booklet is issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and explains everything about the move from insurance requirements to how claims are filed. If a moving company doesn’t give you this booklet, then steer clear! We encourage you to read through this booklet thoroughly before signing a moving contract with us. If you have any questions about insurance coverage or our moving services, our agents will be happy to answer all of your questions.
